Open Water Lifeguard Bolt-on / OWL renewal – 11th April 2026

Join us for a one-day Open Water Lifeguard course designed for qualified lifeguards who wish to renew their Open Water Lifeguard status or extend their existing Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) with the Open Water Lifeguard bolt-on.

The NPLQ OWL bolt on is £100, and the OWL renewal is £75.

This practical, hands-on course will equip you with the specialist knowledge and skills required to supervise and respond effectively in open water environments such as lakes, reservoirs, and outdoor swimming venues.

What the course covers:

• Section 1 – The open water lifeguard, environment, hazards and supervision
• Section 2 – Responding to an emergency taking action
• Section 3 – CPR & first aid

Training will take place across two venues, The Lenton Centre (NG7 1RQ) and Colwick Park (NG2 4BH), allowing candidates to gain realistic, practical experience in an open water environment. This will be followed by an assessment in the form of a verbal question and answer session, and a practical demonstration of rescue skills.

To attend this course, candidates must:

• Hold a valid NPLQ (for bolt-on candidates) or current Open Water Lifeguard qualification (for renewals)
• Be physically fit and competent in open water conditions
• Be 16 years of age or over

Upon successful completion, candidates will be awarded the RLSS Open Water Lifeguard qualification.

Please be sure to bring a pen, paper, towel, appropriate swim wear (a wetsuit is recommended), a brightly colourd swim cap, hand sanitiser, suncream and photo ID.
