EVENT OVERVIEW

The National Dragon Boat Finals is the highlight of the British Dragon Boat Association calendar. Competing teams from across Britain come together to compete for the national championship across a weekend of racing. Dragon Boat racing is a 2000 year old tradition originating from ancient China, now enjoyed around the world in it’s modern form.

WHEN & WHERE

The event takes place at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottinghamshire on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of September 2026.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?

Volunteers should hold either:

  • RLSS Open Water Lifeguard
  • RYA Power Boat Level 2 or RYA Safety Boat

WHAT IS INCLUDED AND WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

We will provide you with lunch and refreshments, somewhere to rest and shelter during your breaks, all the necessary PPE and rescue equipment, and cover reasonable expenses such as millage.

You need to bring:

  • Warm clothing
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Appropriate footwear
  • Sunglasses
  • Sun cream
  • Refillable water bottle

We will supply a limited amount of wet weather gear.

Prior to the event volunteers will be provided with all the necessary documentation, safety plans, and briefings required to carry out their role. Once you arrive at the event, you will be provided with a site induction. You will never be asked to carry out any task that you are not trained or qualified to do. Our new volunteers are mentored by an experienced team member, giving you the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and gain invaluable experience.
