Event description

Henley Royal Regatta is one of the most prestigious and historic events on the rowing calendar. Drawing competitors and crowds from all across the world, this event is one not to miss. Taking place on the River Thames in Henley-on-Thames, the event couldn’t be in a more remarkable location. The event is split into qualifying and the main Regatta. Qualifying which takes place on Friday 26th of June comprises competitors recording an individual time to qualify for the main Regatta. Then the spectacle of the main regatta takes place from Tuesday the 30th of June until Sunday the 5th of July.

During qualifying and the main regatta, Colwick Park Lifeguards (CPL) provide water safety and rescue services to the competitors of the regatta, stationing multiple safety boats along the course as well as additional lifeguards at strategic points. We work in close partnership with the event organisers of Henley Royal Regatta to ensure the safety of all the competitors.

Due to the large nature of the operation we are looking for several enthusiastic and committed volunteers to join our team. We are looking for volunteers who already hold the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) Open Water Lifeguard qualification (OWL), Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Power Boat Level 2 or Safety Boat qualification.

Prior to the event volunteers will be provided with all the necessary documentation, safety plans, inductions and briefings required to carry out their role. Once you arrive at the event, you will be provided with a full site induction and training. You will never be asked to carry out any task that you are not trained or qualified to do. Our new volunteers are mentored by an experienced team member, giving you the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and gain invaluable experience.

As well as volunteering as part of our safety team you will also get time off during the day to explore the regatta and the local town. We encourage our volunteers to take full advantage of this unique opportunity. You will be volunteering alongside a diverse, friendly, caring and welcoming group of people who I’m sure you will call friends by the time the event is over.

We will provide your accommodation, meals and all the equipment required to carry out your role. So what are you waiting for? Read our faq’s below and sign up using the form at the end of this page. A member of our team will then be in contact to discuss the next stages of your volunteer application.
